Featured Skater - Sarah Lysne! |
DSC Congratulates Sarah Lysne on attaining her Senior Competitive Dance Test, the highest test ever passed in any discipline in Duncan Skating Club history. DSC is very proud of her!
Duncan skater takes huge step toward ice dance nationals
Lysne beats out 50 girls for a spot with Edmonton up-and-comer Mike Olson Last March, figure skater Sarah Lysne skated as the Little Mermaid in an ice show put on by the Duncan Skating Club. Since then, she's taken a huge leap out of the water, and is on her way to becoming a Dancing Queen.
Lysne, 18, was thrilled to star as mermaid Ariel, but unsure about where her skating career was headed. She had split up with former ice dance partner Sean Weatherley of Comox, and spent last winter recovering from a concussion suffered when she hit her head on the ice.
Considering the scarcity of male partners, it was looking like Lysne would either spend the next year looking for a new partner, or turn pro, and join a touring ice show.
In an all-out effort, she went to a partner tryout in Edmonton. The chances were about as good as when she was 14 and a dance seminar with former world champion Victor Kratz (who glided to fame with partner Shae-Lynn Bourne) prompted her to switch disciplines from singles to dance.
